"Echos is an atmospheric work that grows in interest with each listen."
- Scott Yanow, jazz journalist/historian
In the summer of the 17 year cicadas I rode my bicycle across Montclair, New Jersey and as the sound of the cicadas grew louder humming I heard a drum being played along in perfect time with their rhythm. When I stopped to listen, I figured out rather quickly that the drummer was none other than Glen Velez. Nobody else plays with that consistency and tone, and it made perfect sense that he would be out there amongst this phenomena of nature. I hollered a greeting out to him, and there began our friendship and subsequent collaborations and this unique trio with Craig Yaremeko and special guest Loire Cotler.
A dynamic performer on all saxophones, flutes and clarinets Craig Yaremko brings joyful exuberance to every musical situation Yaremko has performed alongside jazz artists Geri Allen, Helio Alves, Jerry Bergonzi, Don Braden, Paulo Braga, Randy Brecker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Candido, Jimmy Cobb, Paquito D'Rivera, Dave Stryker and Ray Vega, as well as with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New York City Symphony, and has backed-up such artists as Frankie Avalon, Michael Feinstein, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis and Frankie Valli.
A legendary figure amongst musicians and audiences world-wide, Glen Velez is the first percussionist to gain international recognition as a successful solo artist with frame drums. His extensive array of frame drum innovations and sounds have inspired collaborations with an epic and eclectic list of renowned artists, including Steve Reich, the Paul Winter Consort, Suzanne Vega, Maya Beiser, Tan Dun and Pat Metheny.
Loire Cotler is a featured soloist with Glen Velez Handance Ensemble and Hans Zimmer Live. Her distinctive voice, original lyrical chants and vocal arrangements can be heard on numerous albums, live performances, and film scores, including Hans Zimmer’s Oscar winning score for Dune: Part One, James Newton Howard’s Oscar nominated score Raya and the Last Dragon and David Buckley's score for the Netflix series The Sandman. Loire attributes her rhythmic approach to Glen Velez. Loire’s profound interest in the instinctive rhythmic-interconnectivity of migrating birds flying in formation play a vital role in her music work.
